Heroics of the Dark Age

On two straight tries, failed attempts to mesmerize a group of Albions residing in Fensalir Faste had resulted in the swift death of Lain and Gelatin. The third time they were noticeably irked and sought swift and devastating revenge. They headed towards Fensalir Faste and were disappointed when the antagonists failed to confront me. After a couple minutes, interviews with those passing through Valhalla prompted the duo to leave for Arvkar Faste in search of their prey. They moved out to the chorus of more death messages. When they arrived on the scene, they carefully skirted the edge of visibility and reached the southwest side of Arvkar. Here they encountered an infamous sorcerer known as Neostorm X.

Neostorm X (level 50 Sorcerer) and pet Icestrider Chiller (level 48-50 casting monster) of Albion

Versus

Lain (Level 50 Darkness Runemaster) and potent pet Gelatin (Level 50 Variety Healer) of Midgard

The masters of control in this face off were the avalonian Neostorm and the dwarf Gelatin, both the best at the art of control in their respective realms. Each used mesmerizing spell to halt enemy thought. Lain wielded by far the most powerful damaging spells. However Neostorm and Icestrider could both cast slightly less powerful spells. Gelatin was hardier, boasting more constitution than Neostorm, but could not return damaging spells. With each party noticing the other at the same time, the match was dead even.

Neostorm got off the first area mesmerizing spell, leaving Gelatin and Lain stranded. Gelatin burst free in a spurt of concentration through a technique called Purge. She cast a shout-mesmerizing spell on both Neostorm and Icestrider. Mind racing, she began to wait for Lain to overcome the mind gripping mesmerizing spell. In the meantime, Gelatin reinforced the mesmerizing spell on Icestrider but didn’t do the same to Neostorm in time. Neostorm then broke the short duration shout-mesmerizing spell, and cast a curse of poison on Gelatin. Gelatin attempted a self heal but her concentration was interrupted by Neostorm’s damaging spell. At that instant, Lain broke free from her trance of mesmerizing spell. Lain cast her powerful damage spell on Neostorm, interrupting Neostorm’s dangerous magical words. Lain knew that both she and Neostorm had the ability to cast a single spell so quickly that the other’s spells could not interrupt their own. If Neostorm used this ability on Lain, Lain’s next spell would be interrupted and she would lose the edge. So she used her quick cast immediately: that way even if Neostorm used the identical ability, the spell would land, and Neostorm would be close to defeat. Quickcasted next nuke so that Neostorm could not quick cast Lain and interrupt her. The idea worked; another third damaging spell and Neostorm face first in the dirt. I headed east to the front of Arvkar Faste. With both characters fully functional, Icestrider became an insignificant detail.

To the northeast at the Arvkar gate, Lain’s sharp Norse eyes spotted a siege ram. This meant that Albions and Midguardians were waging a serious battle, although it was unclear whether their Midgard allies were invading or defending the keep. The two hardened heroes headed up, and learned that Midguardians were on the defensive. However, both doors were already destroyed. They sprinted forward, excitement beginning to build over the possibility of catching the Albion forces with surprise from the rear. The courtyard was empty, bearing only a few signs of futile resistance and a ruthless aggressor. Their heartbeats increased even more as they raced into the spiral staircase leading to the keep lord and the heart of the fort. Lain caught sight of an Albion caster on the way in and tried to cast damaging spells while Gelatin followed with halting spells. Unfortunately he escaped their deadly sights, but the dangerous duo quickly pursued. They encountered no further resistance and found themselves in the top room watching Albions engaged with the keep lord. Our heavenly heroes selected the closest enemy target and unleashed devastating spells of damage and paralysis which affected the area. The chaos that ensued was deviously lovely. Two Albions survived the initial shock and attacked Lain. Gelatin tried a mesmerizing spell shout but this ability was not available after recent use in the fight with Neostorm X. Lain was slain, but had already cast several lethal spells, killing five in the process. Gelatin ran into an opposite corner, taking advantage of her instant heal spells and the high powered Lord hitting the Albions. She quickly used a difficult spell of instant resurrection on Lain, instilling Lain with full life and mana. Lain proceeded to avenge herself by destroying the final two Albions. Unfortunately, the two managed to fatally wound Gelatin in a desperate final bid. With everyone else in the area dead, Lain ran a vocal victory lap and took photographs to show her friends. All victory and glory to Midgard; and Odin!
